What to Expect During a Court-Ordered Assessment
By Karen Brogdon, LADAC II • EMDR Trained
A court-ordered assessment is often the first formal step in a legal process that can feel overwhelming. Understanding the process removes most of the anxiety.
Before Your Appointment
Bring any paperwork from your attorney, probation officer, or the court, along with a photo ID. If you already have prior treatment records, bringing those speeds up the evaluation.
During the Session
Expect a structured clinical interview using validated screening instruments, plus an open conversation about your history and current circumstances. Nothing here is designed to trap you — the goal is an accurate, defensible picture of your situation.
After the Assessment
Reports are typically completed within 24–48 hours and sent directly to the requesting party with your signed consent. If counseling or further treatment is recommended, Karen will walk you through next steps.
